Creating an AppExchange Strategy

A big portion of a Salesforce Admin’s job is listening and learning. Listening to your users and learning what they need will not only help you drive adoption but also help shape your feature roadmap. In fact, I talk about that in this post: Using SABWA to Drive Salesforce Adoption.

With the power of the Salesforce Platform, admins have a lot of tools at their disposal to create the apps and functionality that users need to be productive. We can either build it ourselves or get a ready-made solution from the AppExchange. But with so many apps to choose from, how do we get the right apps to the right users? And, more importantly, how do we choose those apps? It all starts with an AppExchange Strategy.

Turn Responses into Salesforce Records

Create or update records based on participant responses. Create a data map to define the values for object fields that are populated on the submission of a response. You can map participant responses to one or more fields, or you can choose a constant value that’s populated in a field.

Where: This change applies to Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic in Performance, Partner Developer, Enterprise, Developer, and Unlimited editions where Salesforce Surveys is enabled.

Configure Features with Guided Setup

Guided setup walks you through setting up visibility, processes, workflows, record types, layouts, and assignment rules for Salesforce features. From start to finish, guided setup leads you through each step with easy-to-follow directions and navigable links to settings pages.

As long as you have a Partner license, you can access Guided Setup from Experience Workspaces. Click the Guided Setup tile, and select which feature you want to set up.

Building a GraphQL API in JavaScript

Over the last few years, GraphQL has emerged as a very popular API specification that focuses on making data fetching easier for clients, whether the clients are a front-end or a third-party.

In a traditional REST-based API approach, the client makes a request, and the server dictates the response.

For example, the client may want only the user’s name and email, and none of the address information.

For single-page apps (SPAs) or other front-end heavy client-side applications, this speeds up rendering time by reducing the payload size. However, as with any framework or language, GraphQL has its trade-offs. In this post, we’ll take a look at some of the pros and cons of using GraphQL as a query language for APIs, as well as how to get started building an implementation.

Getting Started with Enhanced Transaction Security Policies

What if I told you that you could prevent your users from adding fields containing sensitive data to their reports as they build and edit in the report builder? Or that you could require two-factor authentication when a user logs in from an outdated browser version? Well, you’re in luck, transaction security policies are one of the coolest features in Salesforce you might not have known existed! They give you the ability to block the transaction or alert an admin when a user does something that might be suspicious. By bringing together transaction security policies and Apex conditions, we can take our org’s security to the next level.

What Does Salesforce Do?

Salesforce helps break down technology silos in your organization between departments so no matter where they are, employees in marketing, sales, commerce, service, and IT share a single customer view. This enables a deeper understanding of customers on one customer relationship management (CRM) platform. We call it Salesforce Customer 360 because it gives you a 360-degree view of your customers.

Sample Gallery Updates for Summer ’20

All of the remaining Spring ’20 Orgs will be automatically upgraded to the Summer ’20 release. Along with that update, the developer evangelism team will also update the Sample Gallery. In this post, we’ll do a quick recap of the Summer ’20 features highlighted in the sample apps and go over some other updates that the team has been working on, namely: a tooling update that lets us track code coverage and a Lightning Web Component test blitz.

Check out LWC Recipes for an overview of these new features. We’ve added new dedicated recipes to illustrate them. Here’s an example for the Lightning Message Service. You can see it in action with our three UI technologies (Visualforce, Aura and Lightning Web Components).

Welcome to the Salesforce Mobile App

The Salesforce mobile app is an enterprise-class app that provides your users with instant access to your company’s CRM data from a phone or tablet. Here are some of the reasons why the app is so awesome.

  • The mobile app is included with every Salesforce license. Yup, you heard us correctly—it’s free. Procrastinating on your mobile rollout is basically like setting piles of money on fire.
  • The app is plug-and-play, which means users just download it from the App Store® or Google Play™— and go. It works out of the box with no setup required. It’s lightning fast—seriously. In the time it took you to read this paragraph, you could have already installed the app and logged in.
  • The app is cross platform, so it runs on Android and iOS operating systems. Like, automatically—without you having to do any development work.
  • The app has offline capabilities. Your mobile users won’t be affected by capricious cellular signals, FAA regulations, subway commutes, or bunker-style buildings.
  • It works seamlessly with the desktop version of Lightning Experience, so users can switch between the two without missing a beat.
  • It isn’t just an app. It’s a platform. Because the mobile app is powered by the Salesforce platform, it’s infinitely customizable. You can use point-and-click tools to make it your own.

Implementing Marketing Cloud with Multiple Salesforce Orgs

Even though Marketing Cloud is a Salesforce product, it’s built on a separate stack and hosted in a different data center from other Salesforce clouds. This allows it to operate independently, but you’ll have to make some design decisions if you want to connect it to a Salesforce org. In our recent publication about Marketing Cloud and Salesforce Implementation Recommendations, we covered some of the considerations around using Marketing Cloud Connect to connect a single Marketing Cloud Instance to a single Salesforce Org. Things get slightly more complicated if you want to connect more than one org.

Equip Your Mobile Workforce for Success in the Field

Equip Your Mobile Workforce for Success in the Field

A necessary change in field service is well underway: 71% of service decision makers have made significant investments in mobile technologies and headcount. As customer expectations continue to rise, the new wave of field service workers entering the mobile workforce have their own expectations: that employers equip them with the best tools and technology to do their jobs.

Many jobs and tasks still require in-person service. When mobile workers have the same capabilities (and visibility) as office-based peers, they work more efficiently, increase the rate of first-visit resolutions, and improve the overall customer experience. If you’ve already made the investment in your mobile workforce — or are planning to — make sure you prioritize these six tools to equip field service workers for success.

New Survey Reveals Shifting Customer Service Standards Amid COVID-19

We’re posting the insights we’ve found, and tips on what businesses can do in response. Click here to explore data across demographics and geographies.

As stay-at-home orders expanded over the past three months and consumer demand plummeted, companies spanning all sectors of the economy have been challenged to engage shaken and confused customers with questions and demands that would be considered unreasonable during normal times. Salesforce surveyed over 3,500 consumers worldwide to understand what customers actually need during these unprecedented times, and how companies can delight them in the absence of a playbook. Here are some key takeaways from respondents in the United States

Trailhead Project- Build your Personal Portfolio on Salesforce

In this project, you create a personal Community website and add a personal portfolio to help share your skills and grow your career. As you know, a one-page resume doesn’t always highlight everything about you. In this portfolio, you can include details about yourself that you can’t include in your resume. By the end of this project, you’ll have your own portfolio to shine a spotlight on your skills and achievements. This is also a great opportunity to connect with the  Trailblazer Community. You can open up potential job opportunities by sharing your portfolio with members of the Trailblazer Community and recruiters.

Top Quotes from TrailheaDX 2020

June 25, 2020, marked a new first for Salesforce: the first fully virtual TrailheadDX. For the last four years, TrailheaDX has been Salesforce’s annual developer conference — an in-person San Francisco gathering of developers, admins and architects looking to grow their Salesforce skillset and innovate with the Salesforce Customer 360 Platform.

But, as with most things in 2020, this year’s event took a different shape. Sarah Franklin, EVP & GM of Platform, Trailhead, and AppExchange, shared before the event, “The most exciting opportunity [of TrailheaDX being virtual] is the removal of barriers to entry for our community. TrailheaDX is for the first time open to everyone, across the world, for free … People can tap into all of this expertise from anywhere, and that’s a key thing for me: bringing the whole community together globally.”

The Sample Gallery

Sample apps show what you can build on the Salesforce platform and are continuously updated to incorporate the latest features and best practices. These reference apps are not intended for production but are a great way to learn.

For developers, looking at someone else’s code is a tried-and-true method of learning how to make something work. The Trailhead sample gallery meets this need by providing a set of sample apps that include code examples on a variety of developer platform features. We built the sample apps to help you, our Salesforce developers, ramp up on the latest and greatest technology.

8 Ways to Stand in Support of the Black Community

Recent events in the U.S. underscore what it is to be Black in America and around the world. As the global president of BOLDforce, our employee resource group (ERG) for our Black employees and allies — I am saddened and angry at the recent murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor. Our community has collectively echoed, “We are tired!” Because for us, the national news is not new. Our experience has always been through the lens of oppression, at the hands of systemic racism, dating back hundreds of years. But despite the emotional exhaustion, we have new opportunities to talk about our experiences with our colleagues, our managers, and our executives with renewed determination and urgency.

Taking Action for Racial Equality and Justice

Systemic racism and violence have affected the Black community for far too long. Across the nation and around the world people are grieving for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and so many others who have been unjustly denied their fundamental rights to justice and even life itself. And, this all in the context of a global pandemic that is disproportionately impacting communities of color.

We believe businesses can be a powerful platform for social change. As a company, we are led by our core value of equality and we stand as allies to the Black community against racism, violence, and hate. We all have an urgent responsibility to act. As Mellody Hobson, President and co-CEO of Ariel Investments, says, “We talk about the three P’s — People, Purchasing, Philanthropy.” In our approach we are adding a fourth P — Policy.

How to Rapidly Launch New Products and Pricing

As local businesses began closing their doors due to COVID-19, tech company Podium stepped up to help. Within weeks, they launched a new, free product that enabled local businesses to start the process to safely implement online ordering, payments, and contactless pickup — all through text messages.

In this webinar, Podium CTO Jason Taylor will share how his team implemented Salesforce CPQ & Billing to create a simplified selling experience for reps and a seamless buying experience for customers. Having this unified quote-to-cash system in place enabled Podium to move fast and launch a new product to support local businesses impacted by COVID-19.

A Survey of 3,500+ Consumers Shows How COVID-19 Will Transform Shopping For the Long Haul

Every two weeks, Salesforce Research is surveying the general population to discover how consumers and the workforce are navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re posting the insights we’ve found, and tips on what businesses can do in response. Click here to explore data across demographics and geographies.

No industry has escaped fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic, but few face as daunting of a recovery as retail. Already searching for footing as ecommerce and disruptive business models grew prior to the crisis, retailers must now reimagine their operations to engage economically shaken consumers that remain vulnerable to infection.

Salesforce surveyed over 3,500 consumers across the globe to understand how their shopping behaviors, needs, and expectations have been reshaped over the past several months and their outlooks for the future. Here are some key takeaways from our analysis of respondents in the United States.
